Patch Adams: Collector's Edition
"Patch Adams" starring Robin Williams, has him playing his best role since
"Good Morning Vietnam" and possibly his best ever. A movie that anyone of any age is sure to
love, Patch Adams stood out as one of the years best Hollywood offerings.
Based on the true story of the lighthearted Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams, it makes for a nice change
with some fact over fiction on the big screen. Following the life of Adams, we begin with him
near his own end. With little purpose in life and near the end of his rope, confused and
suicidal, he checks himself into a mental institute. From there, he rekindles the flame of
life deep inside as he finds purpose in helping others.
A flame that becomes a burning desire, Adams enters medical school. Here his methods of not only
treating the disease but also the patient through humour become harshly criticized by his
teachers and peers. However through much struggling, the flame begins to spread like a brush
fire, touching the hearts of those he encounters.
A touching story that is sure to reach the heart of any viewer, this is a movie not to miss.
The disc is single sided - dual layered and contains the original widescreen version of the
movie. The mastering is excellent, as are the many extras. The only drawback of the disc is
that the director's audio commentary is hard to hear for the original movie audio track is
left quite loud.
