Quills
An all-star cast featuring Geoffrey Rush, Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix and Michael Caine take us on a historic and risque romp through time to France of the early 1800s. Here among the locals, in a quaint country asylum lived the Marquis de Sade (Rush), a literary man sent to this abode by a country disgusted by his pornographic literature, and hoping to silence him by calling him mad rather than dead.
However, with a country awfully aroused at his every writing, keeping his tales from the public was like trying to keep the sun itself from them. And so, with a little help from an erotically enchanted laundry maid (Winslet), books were published even as he remained trapped within his new home.
Unfortunately for him, with many still determined to have him silenced, a ruthless doctor (Caine) is sent to help convince him of this, leaving Abbe Couchier (Phoenix), the resident priest running the asylum, with little choice but to also insist on censorship.
Based on true historical figures of early France, the piece is for the most part fiction, but an insightful glimpse at the provocative past of a country known for its lustful love of love itself.

The disc is single sided - dual layered and contains the original widescreen version of the movie. The mastering is excellent, while the extras are about average.
