Runaway Bride
Ike Graham (Richard Gere), a reporter for USA Today is anything but loved by the reading
community, at least that of the female gender. Thriving on the malicious tactics of love used
by women of the world, he often finds himself on the painful end of a good whack from passing
female strangers.
Always looking for a good story, he is told of a small town girl named Maggie Carpenter
(Julia Roberts), but better known to the locals as the "Runaway Bride." In a flash,
Graham is off from the hustle and bustle of New York to the small town of Hale, here to learn
more of this puzzling woman. Rumored to have already left three grooms standing at the altar
in disbelief as she simply dashed past them, and with plans set in motion for her next walk
down the aisle, Graham sets up for front row seats.
However, getting to know family and friends has him relaxing into the small town routine, and
getting to know the bride-to-be has himself auditioning for the next possible man at the end
of the aisle.
Marking the first film since Pretty Woman in which Roberts and Gere find themselves teaming up,
we are treated to a less charming but a more sophisticated version of the Meg Ryan and Tom
Hanks on-screen coupling. Full of surprises and humourist twists, the story along with the
wonderful performances of Roberts and Gere will have you pleasantly entertained, with a smile
on your face and a glow in your heart.
