Titus
Based on the Shakespear play of the same name, "Titus" starring Anthony Hopkins and
Jessica Lange is a masterpiece that presents the classic play beautifully while at the same
time giving just a visual hint of modern times.
Although the villains for the most part were far from frightful, superb acting and fabulous
camera work make the film a treat for the senses. Also including the original text, the
brilliant visuals make following the story wonderfully simple, even for the "thee" and "thou"
layman.
As in the original story, we follow Titus (Hopkins), a powerful Roman warrior who upon his
return is given the opportunity of rulership. Turning the position down, he is put in a
situation to choose between his son or his son's bitter opposition. Picking the opposition, he
soon learns his mistake as one of his prisoners of war (Lange) is taken by this new ruler as
queen; a woman whom her son he killed and who holds deep pain and vengeful anger within her
evil heart.
