In the midst of battle during World War II, an impenetrable force of Nazi U-boats (submarines), communicating via an unbreakable code, threaten to turn the tables on the war's outcome.
Discovering the radio transmissions of a disabled Nazi U-boat, with little doubt carrying an invaluable encryption and decoder device, an American sub is fashioned to look like the enemy's and sent off to rendevous as a German resupply ship.
Taking control of the Nazi ship, the American's along with its captain (Bill Paxton) are destroyed by an attacking Nazi destroyer. Now along with a small crew, Lt. Andrew Tyler (Matthew McConaughey) is left to return the vessel to allied forces without being detected by the Nazi fleet who would immediately change their coding.
For those who enjoy war films, this film promises some fabulous high-seas adventure and wonderful realistic effects. However, for those looking for more, the weaker dramatic writing leaves the movie somewhat high and dry.
Parental Note: Minor Language, Adult Situations, Brief Nudity
The disc is single sided - dual layered and contains the original widescreen version of the movie. The mastering is excellent, as are the extras.
