Maximum Overdrive (1986), directed by Stephen King

Was this film King's attempt to avoid being misinterpreted by other directors and screenwriters? In that case, bring on Stanley Kubrick and Brian DePalma! King himself called this a "moron movie" and I am inclined to agree with him.

Not much to say for it, except this: while most of the cast plays it as high camp (such as Pat Hingle and Yeardley Smith), lead Emilio Estevez is embarassingly earnest. As far as directorial debuts starring Emilio Estevez go, this film ranks about as highly as Wisdom.
