I arrived in Oslo and was kindly offered a lift to the youth hostel by one of my fellow train passengers. Here I was introduced to the idea of rock-hard ice on the windscreens of cars, and which could be overcome by the driver and passenger leaning out of each side window in order to drive within the lane lines. I had many experiences with ice in Norway, not least of which was when I slipped on a road covered with about 15cm of ice and which also happened to be on a steep hill. Suffice it to say, I was somewhat bruised when I managed to stop.
