Monster Makeup

If you want to be cast as a monster for the show, you had better be able to sit for a long time in the makeup chair. For most vampires the usual time for getting prettied up is about an hour and a half. For Mark Metcalf, who played the master, it's about two or two and a half hours. We must not forget poor Moloch, the Corrupter (a.k.a. green guy with horns...) in the episode "I Robot -- You Jane," who was played by Mark Deakins. It took a whopping three hours to put on all of his makeup.

Congrats!!!

BtVS did receive one Emmy nomination this year. It was for the make-up in the very first episode. And it was well deserved. It takes 1 and half hours to do each vampire's makeup and there were a lot of vamps in that episode!
I actually talked to one of the people who work with the special effects department on BtVS. The have very long hours and very busy schedules. The same people who do the BtVS stuff are also involved in the makeup of Babylon 5. They also work on some of the props on BtVS. Apparently the Master's skeleton was painted, by hand, at 2:30 in the morning.
They should of won, but didnt. I'll never watch the emmys again! :)
