Norm MacDonald

A Very Funny Man

Norm MacDonald is just plain funny. The Canadian born comedian's sarcastic, deadpan, raw, and real comedy always makes me laugh. Norm joined Saturday Night Live in 1993, and has been one of their funniest members ever since. His Weekend Update was, for me, the highlight of the show. It is, however, no longer such a highlight because Norm was fired from Weekend Update. Since then, the whole "norm situation" has been rather confusing. On the February 7th show of Saturday Night Live Norm had seemingly been fired, or quit, or something...he wasn't on the show anymore. Then, on the February 14th show he showed up at the end, kissed Roma Downey, and then disappeared again. Who knows what the hell is going on??

It seems that Norm has, all this time, been in negotiations with NBC, and has finally resolved his contract. He was back on Saturday Night Live on Saturday February 28. Norm's lovely pic was back on the credits, and he even did a sketch. Norm was greeted by great applause from the audience. Although the skit wasn't all that tremendous, it was just great to see Norm again. At one point it did seem like he was addressing the whole situation, for when Garth Brooks said something to the effect of "I don't much like you.", Norm's reply was "A lot of people don't." Hehe. I like ya Norm :)

The plot thickens... On Friday March 6's episode of Letterman Norm made an appearance. I caught the show rather accidently, missed the begginning, but heard all the good stuff. Norm was funny, as always, but he was also a bit disgruntled. In fact, he admitted that the situation at SNL is "uncomfortable", and that he wanted out of his contract. Don wouldn't let him out to go be "unfunny" on some other network. To quote Norm (actually paraphrase): "Why would they want someone unfunny on the show? I'll go to a different network and try to be funny there. However, Don said no." On Saturday March 7's SNL, I missed the opening credits because of my ten minute drive home. Ugh! Apparently, Norm appeared in them as Larry King. This was his only sketch (I saw the rest of the show and he didn't appear.) Oh, woa is Norm.

Norm has a movie coming up, "Dirty Work", which will open in April. He also, or so I hear, has finished a comedy album which should be released sometime soon. Norm is 35 years old, divorced, has a 6 year old son, and lives in both Los Angeles and New York. Visit these sights for more great stuff on Norm.

Set Norm Free The premise of this sight has changed from rage at Norm's dismissal from Weekend Update to rage at his being refused his request to be released from his contract. It is still a great sight for updated information on the Norm situation. It's where I got my nifty "We want Norm" banner from, and it also contains clips, pics, and other great links.

Saturday Night Live Really great SNL sight. This kid has news, clips, articles, scripts, and reviews. Everything you'd want to know about SNL, and some good stuff on Norm is here.
