With the magic of Hollywood, a renovated bank building is being transformed into a new movie museum where Gone With the Wind is the starring attraction.
Billed as the world's largest collection of movie memorabilia from the 1939 Academy Award-winning film, the Gone With the Wind museum opens in Atlanta on Dec. 15 -- the 60th anniversary of the film's premiere at Loew's Grand Theatre.
The collection features film footage from the Atlanta premiere and movie props, including a striking portrait of Vivian Lee [this is how this ignorant woman spelled it! It's VIVIEN LEIGH!] as Scarlett. The picture still bears the wine stain from the drink Clark Gable's Rhett Butler tossed at it.
The hundreds of souvenirs collected by Herb Bridges, the author of four books on Gone With the Wind, are on a five-year loan to the Margaret Mitchell Museum.
To display it, the museum has taken over a nearby bank building and transformed the facade into an old-time movie theatre.
Pieces from Bridge's collection have been on display in Japan, Germany, Canada, and most recently at the Franklin Mint in Pennsylvania.
But the Atlanta showing will be the first time his entire collection can be viewed at one location.
