This section of my page celebrates the life of Freddie Mercury, who was, in my opinion, the greatest singer ever. He was part of the band Queen, known throughout the world with classics such as "Bohemian Rhapsody", "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions", and "Another One Bites The Dust". Even though you may not have known Queen wrote them, surely you have heard one or all of these songs!
Freddie was an amazing man. My small tribute cannot even begin to do him justice, but I will try in my small way to keep his memory alive.
Born to Jer and Bomi Bulsara in Zanzibar on September 5, 1946, Farrokh Bulsara entered this world, to better it and alter it before he left again. He had dazzling dark eyes and beautiful black hair... He was a shy boy. In the manner of parents in those days, his decided to send him to a boarding school in Panchgani, India, in which the best education at the time could be obtained at St. Peter's School.
He had a eye for creative arts and an ear for music. The first he studied in college; the latter he satisfied first by piano lessons, and then through Queen. Later, his family moved to England and Freddie, as he was then known, severed all ties with Zanzibar and India. He attended Ealing College and studied to be a graphic designer.
Freddie began to live for music. His first band was called "The Hectics" but pretty much died a natural death... he recorded an album under the name 'Larry Lurex'. It wasn't a great success.
Freddie was a social creature, and enjoyed himself with friends. He had a small shop with a man named Roger Taylor, who later became the drummer for Queen. Roger and a friend, Brian May (the world's greatest guitarist) had a band named "Smile", and they had recently lost their lead singer. Freddie volunteered for the job, a shy fellow named John Deacon joined to play bass, the name was changed to Queen, and the rest, my friends, is history.
That sums up Queen's career in one powerful word. Freddie loved performing, but didn't really enjoy touring. He knew how to pump every ounce of energy out of an audience, and it showed in his radiant performances on stage.
I adore Freddie Mercury's voice. He had an amazing range, dynamics, and oh! he can send shivers down my spine! :) He can be down and dirty, raspy voiced one moment, then operatic with amazing clarity and beauty the next. He can sing nasty, he can sing sweet, and all the shades of grey in between. All in all, he is the greatest singer and an amazing songwriter and human I know of! :)
Freddie loved champagne (Moët and Chandon esp), vodka, yellow flowers, and cats, and hated boredom - he always HAD to be doing something. He was unbeaten and unbeatable by any man... but his end came not in the form of man, but in the form of a deadly killer...
Freddie's official statement; November 23, 1991:
"Following the enormous conjecture in the press over the last two weeks, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have AIDS. I felt it correct to keep this information private to date to protect the privacy of those around me. However, the time has come now for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth and I hope that everyone will join with my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease. My privacy has always been very special to me and I am famous for my lack of interviews. Please understand this policy will continue. "
Just one day after those words Freddie Mercury, or Frederick Bulsara, the King of Queen, lost his battle against AIDS and died of bronchopneumonia at 6:48 p.m. He was cremated, but that only ended his physical presence on earth... just visit the Official International Queen Fan Club and see how much he still lives on in his fans. Better yet, visit the chat room there and talk to some of the people who never knew him but love him...
I don't mourn Freddie's death, don't get me wrong. We all must leave someday. Instead, as I said at the top, I celebrate his life. :)

Amazing eyes...
This is my favourite picture of Queen. From left to right is Roger Taylor, Brian May, Freddie Mercury, and John Deacon - they did this for the music video of their song "I Want to Break Free". :) I have this picture in my locker at school! (I want to break free...... I want to break free.... I want to break free from your lies you're so self satisfied I don't need you.... I've got to break free.... God knows.... God knows I want to break free!!! I love that song!)
