Replies to the March/April poll question: What do your family and friends think of GWTW?
Have you ever had to straighten someone out for overly criticizing it? Were you
surprised to find out that someone who didn't seem to be a potential Windie turned
out to be an avid fan? Do tell!
GWTWgal's Response: Although I've gotten the majority of them watch to watch it with me, I have to say that most of my family and friends think I'm insane for being such a huge GWTW addict. But hey, at least we Windies know we're not alone!
You all's Responses:
-My whole family exept for my dad loves gone with the wind.
But I definitly have to straighten my friends out. They
think just because it's old it sucks. Sometimes I just want to slap them! I know
several people who said they would hate
it turned out loving it. I'm definitly proof of that. My
sister tried to get me to watch it when I was little and
I told her I would hate it. I loved it and am now the
biggest fan I know!
-My family and friends are all very aware of my GWTW "obession" and
are very understanding however, some of the GWTW sites I've seen are very
critical about the racial implications, the shallowness of the relationship
between S&R, so on...Why can't those people just quit overanalysing everything
and just enjoy and appreciate GWTW on the level it was written by MM? I love the
story behind MM's motivation for writing GWTW and based on that alone feel that
she surpassed herself.
-My family thinks of GWTW as an ok movie but not the best movie ever
as I think of it to be. My two best friends have not even seen it. One day
though I am going to make them sit down and watch every minute of it.
-My family does not like GWTW. But if your talking just in my house
my 6 year old daughter loves the movie. Some of my friends like the movie.
-I'm in the 8th grade. One of my best-friends told me that I was
crazy for reading such a long book. I had to set her straight. After all when
I was done with the book I cried just because I was done.
-My immediate family is mostly women and we all love GWTW. I guess I
was surprised when I was little to find out my dad like it too and would watch
it with me.
-My husband either leaves the house or goes to a different tv when gwtw is going
to be. He says he has seen the entire movie...but he's fibbing! He just says
that so i won't ask him or make him watch it with me!
Yea, i've been surprised by people who haven't seen the movie and have stopped
by my web site and said they can't wait to watch it....makes me feel great! For
not watching the movie, or knowing much about it, they sure have some neat
things to say.
-A love for GWTW seems to run in my family. The only member of my family who
dosn't like GWTW my is sister, bit every other member of my family that has
lived to see GWTW has loved it.
-I didn't want to have anything to do with GWTW at first, until my best friend
MADE me read the book, and after the first chapter I was hooked, I read the book
quickly and rented the movie, and now I'm overly obsessed, if there even IS such
a thing.
My family was actually very fond of it, I had read the book first and then
rented the movie, and my twelve year old brother who usually won't have anything
to do with the movies I watched, actually came in, sat down and watched the
entire movie with me, and LIKED it. My mother has loved it since she remembers,
my little eight year old brother liked it, but he wasn't fond of the kissing,
his exact words were, ewww, too mushy *smile*.
-My whole family loves GWTW. Well, the women anyway. My mom saw it
when she was a kid. I first saw it on the big screen, when I was in high school.
We all watch it wheneve it comes on t.v. and have it on tape. I have read the
book and loved it. I was disappointed in the book Scarlett but enjoyed the
movie. My aunt has a GWTW room in her house and I have the music boxes, which my
grandkids love to play.I used them to help them go to sleep when they were
babies. I heard they are rereleasing it and are having special events in
Atlanta. I am trying to find out about them. I just foumd tht GWTW sites on the
internet and yours is the second one I'e looked at. After I am finished Looking
I will take your survey. So far, so good.
-Whenever my darling, loving mother walks into the room and I'm
watching GWTW (she does this with other movies too though) she mutters the
word "slut" just to annoy me. Basicly she just dosn't understand my
obbsession. When ever I say anything about GWTW around my best guy friend he
does a little girlie voice "Oh Rhett your so hot, your so cute" but everyone
has things they enjoy which other people can't understand so I just tease him
about his comic collection.
