It was Sunday evening. The warm air was sweet smelling, and Geri, residing at her pal George Michael's mansion, was sitting by the poolside in her bikini. She knew she couldn't catch some rays in the evening, but she just wanted to sit and think. Her mind was racing with thoughts, most of it was about Emma, Mel C., Mel B., and Victoria. She was starting to regret leaving the group, and she missed the girls...but mostly Emma. She and Emma still did lunch and went shopping, but they hadn't really "done" anything for a long time. She and Emma used to be very close, but now they were just mates that went to the mall once and a while like schoolgirls. She wanted to be with Emma so badly like she used to and hold her in her arms and hug her and pationately kiss her, like she used to. She longed to spend the night with Emma so badly. She wanted to be close with her. When they were together, they would usually take long showers or baths, or just lay in bed together. They didn't really do anything "naughty"...they'd usually just hold each other in their arms and hug, kiss occasionally and rub noses. They'd talk about their days and how they would get mad at a different Spice Girl. They'd tell what would be on their minds, and then they'd snuggle. Now it was different. Now it was just sitting silently, hardly touching at all. "Oh, Emma, when will we be together again?" Geri sighed and tears rolled down her cheeks. At that same time, Emma was sitting in a conference room with the other girls discussing with their manager about the new album. "So, have we decided what we're gonna call it?" Mel B. asked. "Yes, I think it's final..." the manager replied. Emma yawned. "If you don't mind, I think I might go up to my room to bed...I'm so tired....such a busy day," she told everyone. The manager looked at his watch. "It is already 12:30...you girls really should get some sleep, because, after all, tomorrow is your concert." Everyone stood up, said their goodbyes, and left. When Emma got in her hotel room, she looked on the phone to see if she had any messages. She had two. One was a business call, and the other one was from Geri: "Emma, this is Geri. I was thinking about a lot of things that I had to discuss with you. Please call me back." When Emma heard Geri's message, she sat in silence without a move. She couldn't believe Geri called. But she knew she had to call her back as much as she didn't want to because she knew she would then end up having to meet her and then God only knows what else. It wasn't that Emma didn't like her, she loved her, in fact, she still had feelings for her, but she knew that if word got out that she and Geri were together, it would make front pages of every newspaper which would leave to billions of rumours. So, after about fifteen minutes of thinking, she slowly picked up the phone and dialed George Michael's house. "Hello..." it sounded like Geri. "Hello, Geri?" "This is she..." "It's Emma..." There was silence for a moment, and then Geri answered, "Oh, hello, I wasn't sure if my message had come through." "Yeah, it did..." "So, how is everything?" "Fine..." "How is the tour going?" "Ok, I guess. A few bloopers here and there, but no front pages..." "That's good to know..." More silence occured, and then Emma said, "Geri, why did you call me?" "Well, can't I call you? I thought we were mates..." "We are, but you don't just call for no reason. You must have a reason," Emma snapped. "Well, I do. I was going to invite you to dinner tomorrow at the house," Geri said. "I can't tomorrow. We have a concert." "Is tomorrow your last day in the U.S.?" "No." "Well, when is the next day you'll be free?" Geri asked. She shifted the phone to her other hand. "I don't know...maybe in a few days," Emma answered. "Well, whenever you're free, please call me back..." "We can have dinner the day after tomorrow, Tuesday," Emma told her. "That's fine. I'll talk to you later then." "All right, bye.' "Taa taa..." They hung up the phone. Emma cried immediately and Geri sighed and buried her head in her bed pillow, extremely upset at the way they had their conversation. On Tuesday morning, Geri talked to George about the situation. "If it's all right, I'd like to have the house for this evening. I'm inviting Emma over for dinner and, well..." George put his hand on her shoulder and smiled. "Don't worry, I understand, Geri. No need to explain." "I knew you would..." That evening, Geri had everything prepared. She had the food ready and the lights perfectly. She also had on her best dress. She couldn't wait for Emma to come over. When Emma finally did arrive, she was in a pair of jeans and a beige sweater. She also had no make-up or jewlery on, and she had on a pair of Reebok sneakers. Her hair was in a messy pony-tail. She looked like she had been in a hurry. Emma was surprised to see Geri dressed up and Geri was surprised to see Emma looking like she just woke up. "Hi..." Emma greeted. "Glad you could make it," Geri replied. She sat down with Emma at the long table. Geri served her the meals and they ate in silence. Finally, Geri banged her fork down, which startled Emma, and turned to her. "I can't take this anymore! Why aren't we like we used to be? Why can't be close and snuggle and hug and kiss and...and...and why???" Geri shouted. Emma was shocked. She didn't know how to reply to something so sudden. "Geri, nothing's the same anymore," Emma said in a whisper. "It can be if we try! I'm trying, but you don't make any effort! Nothing is different just because I don't make albums with you or perform with you or go to photo shoots with you. I love you, Emma Bunton. I've loved you from the day I met you. I loved you throughout the Spice Girls, and I'm going to love you forever. Why can't you love me? I know that you used to..." Geri was out of breath from yelling and talking so much. She saw tears well up in Emma's eyes. Geri knew she shouldn't have been so harsh, but she couldn't help it. She needed Emma...she loved Emma, and nothing could stop her feelings for her only love. "I love you too, Geri..." "Then why can't you show it?" Geri said in a more quiet voice. She started to form tears in her eyes, too. Emma's tears started to roll, and then she sobbed. She jumped onto Geri's lap and hugged her as tight as she could. She wouldn't let go. She didn't want to let go. She felt safe in her arms. She loved Geri. She knew she did and as much as she wanted to hide it, she couldn't. She needed to be Geri's lover. "Emma, Emma, sshhh, it's ok..." Geri started to cry, too. They hugged. When Emma finally let go, she stared into Geri's eyes. They then hesitently kissed, but after their lips touched, it felt wonderful. They passionately kissed, and then they hugged again. "You don't know how good it feels to have my Baby back..." Geri said. Emma giggled. "You're the only one I want. I NEED you, Emma Lee." "How will we tell the others?" Emma asked, still holding onto Geri. "Let's not think about that now. Right now, I want to concentrate on holding you, my Baby..."
