( Happy Anniversary UNIT - & - First Day of 2001 Surf Season April 16 - October 16) Loaded up my new 9'6" Surfboards Hawaii stick and me and Bruce went to one of our favorite breaks, south of Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach Shores, Fl. Water temp. was only about 72 degrees, but I had had enough! As luck would have it..... flat. Rats! Paddled out anyway and gave it a go. Crashed and burned on what was probably the wake of a passing jet-ski. Opted to work on my tan.
Took the entire fleet down to Sunglow. In attendance Were: Me, Bruce, Dave and Stevie. Beautiful weather for the first appearance of the Boat Races in Daytona Beach. Over the low hum of boat motors was the roar of some pretty big surf. Before shoving off, I found a cool starfish washing up in the surf. I think he was dying because you usually don't see those on the beach. He was purple with orange around the edges. I will add him to the collection with my whole sand dollar I found last year at Ponce Inlet. Paddled all the way out past the last break and realized that damn.....it's huge! For my first real day back in the water I went back to the first break to ride some heavy foam until I get my sea legs back. Got to know my new board and caught several long rides. Going to change my name to Lobstergirl 'cause I burnt the crap out of my back. I wasn't the only french fry that day....hey guys, pass the aloe please.
Me and Bruce got down to Sunglow about 12:30 and it looked a little chilled out from the day before. We went out for a while and played in the small stuff with both of us on longboards. Caught some killer rides! I love longboards! After a warm-up break I went back out and had the ride of the day! Rode from the sand bar all the way to the beach. Sweet!!! All and all it was a lovely day.
Went to Sunglow and Ponce Inlet but it was too cold outside to go swimming...booo hooo!
Went to Sunglow with the whole gang ( Bruce, Dave & Stevie ). Dave has caught the bug. He bought himself a board. It's a nice Mad Dog short board. Congrats Dave!!!! Then the sucker on his first day rode the very first wave he tried. Way to go Dave! Caught two really great rides myself. One of which I rode in to the beach until I bottomed out. Killer!
Went to Sunglow with Stevie and Dave. Waves were quite huge. There were three major breaks. I couldn't make it past the second so I resolved to play around there. Stevie made it all the way out to the high seas while me and Dave were surfing into each other. Had a great time with my two "babysitters."
