Emma Bunton's life changed the day her voice coach from high school looked her name up in the phone book and gave her an unexpected call. Pepi Lemer was whipping the newly formed Spice Girls' voices into shape and number five had just dropped out of the group. Pepi remembered Emma as a charming, hard working Girl worth a try. Emma's mother took the call and her daughter's life changed forever. Emma fit in immediately and was soon nicknamed "Baby" because she was the youngest, and because she visited her mother whenever she could. The other girls teased Emma until they realized just how
important the relationship was to Emma. The band's song "Mama"was written mostly by Emma and she says her eyes well up with tears every time the band sings it. To this day , even when she is on tour halfway around the world or on the set of a movie, she will call up her mother-up to three times a day-just to check in.
