The name of the dance group is Ngoma Uzuri - pronounced ( IN-GO-MA OO-ZUR-EE ) Ngoma Uzuri, which means "Beautiful Drum and Dance", prides itself on professionalism, cultural integrity, creativity and being entertaining. We are a comunity African dance group that stemmed from the Lacy Park Community African Dance Class. The original Lacy Park Community Dance Class began in May of 1995 with one drummer, one dancer and four willing students. Since it's inception the Lacy Park Community Dance Class has grown into a community oriented group. The class welcomed all ages, colors, and diverse spiritualities. The mission of Ngoma Uzuri is to educate through the sharing of Africa's culture and rich roots through Drumming, Dancing, Singing, and Storytelling. Our hope is to share our sense of pride in recognizing our African Heritage, and educating the community in a lost art from and promote diversity.... |
