So you just went out and bought some firebelly toads. But then you realize, what do I feed these guys. This page will tell you what to feed them.
Yuck...But these guys (girls) gotta eat! The crickets come in packs of dozens when you buy them. I buy 4 dozen for every month. I store them in a empty popcorn container. I dust the crickets right before the frogs dinner with calcium rich powder. I drop 5-6 crickets in the tank every 3-4 days, or 12 a week. If you do not like the chirping of crickets at night then you should buy small to medium sized crickets because only the adult crickets chirp. Only feed your toads crickets that can fit into their mouths.
I feed the crickets flake fish food in the container. You should also have wet cotton balls available in the cricket container so the crickets can drink. The crickets will drown if you put in a container of water in the cricket container.
I do not feed my toads waxworms, but I heard that they are just as good as crickets to feed your toads. You should feed each of your toads about 2 waxworms twice a week. So 4 waxworms a week per toad.
Please don't use mealworms. The mealworms have a very hard shell that is very hard for your toads to digest.
There is no real set number of guppies to feed your toads, but if you have a deep enough pool for the guppies to swim in then I suggest you get them. They require a little taking care of, but not very much ( just a little fish food for the guppies). Guppies should not be the toads only food source. They are just a supplement for whenever the toads get hungry between feedings. The toads will catch one every so often. These are a very cheap source of food for the toads, I bought some for about 10 cents a piece.
These guys can eat the worms as a regular diet or just as a treat every now and then when you feel up to digging them up. The worms should be washed under water, but do not drown them or the toads will not eat them.
