The 12th Man

The tradition began in 1922 when the Aggies played in the Dixie Classic Football Game in Dallas against the National Champions, Centre College. Many injuries had befallen the Aggie team and Coach Bible did not think there would be enough men to finish the game. He called into the stands for E. King Gill, a former football player and current basketball player. Gill suited up in an injured player's uniform. Although he never played in that game, he was the only player left on the bench at game's end.
Gill's willingness to support the Aggies is still symbolized today by Aggie fans. The entire student body stands during the game, ready for duty if called. All Aggies are part of the 12th Man.
