All her bags had been loaded into his Explorer, and they were set to go, still unsure exactly where, but they would be together. This was something Methos felt he needed, something he had been waiting for all his life.
Kevin escorted her out of the kitchen and to the front door where he waited. "You take good care of her, Adam."
By the look in his eyes, Methos knew he had won the boy's trust. Of course, Kiernyn may have told him part of the story of how he had saved her life. Perhaps that had convinced him that he intended no harm toward his sister. "I'll guard her with my life," he assured him.
Kiernyn smiled and hugged Kevin one last time. "I'll call you whenever we settle somewhere for the night. You take care, and remember that Joe said if you needed anything..."
"I can take care of myself," Kevin interjected, which caused Methos to chuckle.
"Hardheaded, just like you're sister!"
With a pat on Kevin's back, Methos escorted his lady out the door and into the Explorer. Once he had settled into the driver's seat, he glanced at his love. "Anyplace you have in mind?"
A sly smile inched its way across her face. "Can you take me to the roads less traveled?"
Methos snorted. "They've been traveled more than you think, but I'm sure we could find some very near here..."
Her hand sought his and squeezed tight. "Thank you."
Confused, he asked, "For what?"
"Everything. For making me feel so alive and loved. I know that we won't have a lot of time to accomplish what we want to. My life's so little."
"Life's too short to be so little," Methos informed her. "It doesn't matter how much time we have. We'll have each other, and knowing that will make it seem an eternity."
He lifted her hand to his lips for a tender kiss. "Shall we ride off into the sunset?"
Nodding her head, Kiernyn agreed. "Take me away, Sir Knight."
