Profile

Sturdy and cheerful, Pipes has the easy self-confidence that goes with being exceptionally strong, and he's content with himself and what he is. He's got a twinkle in his optics and a sense of humour, even though most of his jokes are awful! But things don't seem so bad when he's around.

He prefers being a minibot - it makes him less imposing to humans than his standard-sized counterparts. And Pipes likes a human environment, especially the kind a rugged truck would fit into; heavy industry, transport and major construction sites. He finds this more interesting than traditional urban environments... except in one particular aspect. Pipes is fascinated by worthless gadgetry. Musical wristwatches, electric hair trimmers - the capacity of the human imagination never ceases to amaze him. And he actually collects these things! Even on a mission, he's been known on occasion to pull over to the kerb and enviously ogle a human carrying a battery-powered fan.

Pipes doesn't allow his hobby to interfere with his responsibilites to the Autobot cause - at least, not usually. He forgets his strength sometimes and plays more roughly with his fellows than he intends. Those who know him understand he means well, though. However, Pipes also has a very soft spot for Earth children. In their company, he exercises the greatest care, and usually remains seated or parked in truck mode to entertain them.

Background

Pipes comes from Iacon City, Cybertron. His history is standard really - he was among the party who crashed to Earth, remained de-activated for four million years, then got resurrected in the country known as the good ole US of A!

He won't admit it, but Pipes has an aversion to surgical soldering irons - the kind used on fine areas of repairs, like circuitry, etc. It inspires the kind of fear in him that the dentist's drill or injections do for some humans. Ratchet tried to show him there was nothing to fear by 'operating' on worthless human gadgetry; beeping keyrings, Tamagotchi, etc. The tactic failed, but Pi developed a fascination for the gizmos. What humans could think up was amazing. The fact the stuff was effectively junk didn't seem to matter - in fact the more useless they were, the more he liked 'em. Part of the fun was figuring what they were for!

He's been avidly collecting ever since. Autobot City has quite a museum of Americana thanks to him. He tends to the pieces regularly, the way one would works of art, which to him they are (well, that's the OFFICIAL story. Some think he just likes playing with his toys..!).

Abilities

In truck mode Pipes can travel at 100 mph, has a range of 400 miles and can haul 60 tons. In either mode he's among the strongest of the Autobots. He's proud of his twin exhausts and the many uses he can put them to. Their highly corrosive gases can melt a hole in a 2-inch thick steel block in under 10 minutes. A mild puff from a select distance is usually all he requires to dissuade his opponents, however - the effect is similar to using tear gas. Pipes' preferred method of dealing with the enemy after that is either a laser blast or his personal favourite - a good old-fashioned punch!

Weaknesses

As well as those mentioned above, a mere scratch in his corrosion-resistant armour can leave Pipes vulnerable to his own exhaust gases. In the heat of battle he's often unaware of such blemishes and becomes a victim to his own weapon.
