Cornwall is a fishtail-shaped peninsula on the south west corner of Britain, bordered on three sides by the sea. Its landscape is appealingly Old English, consisting of little round green hills (with every tree-lined field boundary containing a hidden twisty road), rugged cliffs (with path tracks along the tops for walkers to enjoy), moorland areas (with scattered granite rocks, cairns, the occasional satellite tracking station or wind farm) and a picturesque rocky coastline with clean sandy beaches (maintained by higher-priced local water rates). It also has a number of historical estates that are preserved by the National Trust and are open to the public for a reasonable fee. Think of any British period drama, and chances are at least one of the scenes was shot in Cornwall.

Cornwall is traditionally known for;

• quaint seaside fishing villages,
• cliff views and National Trust walks along most of its coastline,
• a rich tin & copper mining, fishing and farming heritage,
lots of place names beginning with tre, pol, chy or pen,
KERNOW = Cornwall itself
CHY = House
PEN = Headland
TRE = Traditional prefix to indicate a dwelling with land - ie a farm
POL = Pool or lake

• the Cornish Pasty (a local turnover containing beef, potato, swede and onion. Traditional fare of tin miners in ages past, it's still a very tasty meal today).
• HRH Prince Charles being its Duke (he's also the Prince of Wales).
• tales of pirates, smugglers and contraband, kings, princes and knights, giants, pixies and mermaids!
