Favors part 2

Disclaimer: I don't own them (but I wish I did). I just thought I'd invite them to play for a while. I don't get paid so please don't sue. This is just a tiny piece of smarm, there is no plot.

The sudden thud that came from the kitchen made Jim and Danielle jump. But it was the pain filled moan that came from Blair that made Jim's stomach clench. As Jim hurried into the kitchen he saw Blair struggling to push himself up into a sitting position with his good arm. Seeing his friend on the floor Jim realized that the kid must have rolled over in his sleep, causing him to fall off the counter. Jim suddenly felt guilty for not waking his friend. The older man knelt by Blair and helped him up, allowing the kid to rest his back against the cabinet doors.

Blair clutched the broken arm against his chest. Tears of pain rolling down his cheeks, as he fought to remain silent.

"Let me see Chief." Jim said, as he reached out to inspect the cast.

"Oh man, its hurts." Blair said between clenched teeth, but he allowed Jim to pull the arm away.

"I know buddy, just try to relax." Jim used his heightened sense of sight to examine the cast. He could make out a crack underneath the gauze that was wrapped around the plaster. Again he felt his stomach flip. If the fall has been enough to crack the cast it was possible there had been damage to the bone and pins. The kid seemed to be in enough pain to support his theory. "Chief, I think we need to get you to the emergency room, let a Doctor check out your arm."

Blair didn't protest when Jim reached out and grabbed his good arm, pulling the younger man up.

Danielle helped Blair on with his jacket before rushing out of the loft. "I'll drive." she called over her shoulder, them rushed into her apartment to get her purse.

There had been a twelve car pile up on the interstate. The emergency room doctors struggled to keep up with the steady stream of victims that the EMT's were bringing in. The Hospital staff began rerouting non critical patients to the local clinics when they could. Blair was one of those patients. To his disbelief he found himself sitting in the waiting room of a pediatric hospital.

"Jim we could have gone to the doctor on campus." Blair complained.

"Blair, this was closer." Jim replied. "Besides, if your good I'll bet the Doctor will give you a lolly pop." Jim joked trying to cover his guilt.

"I'm glad you find this so funny." Blair glared evilly at Jim. Then returned his attention to the Highlights magazine that Danielle had handed him.

Dr. Shelby walked down the hall to the exam rooms. She accepted the chart that the nurse handed her. Doing a quick review before she entered the room. "So how did he fall?" She asked.

" From what I understand, he fell off a counter." The nurse replied.

Dr. Shelby looked at the nurse, she had been practicing for ten years now and had seen to many abuse cases not to doubt such a unlikely story. "How does a child with a broken arm climb onto a counter in the first place." she mumbled to herself.

"Jim, let go, I can do this myself." Blair said as he tried to squirm onto the exam table.

"Chief, just hold still, let me help you then I'll go." Jim tried again to get a hold on Blair and lift him onto the table.

"I said I could do this by myself, I'm *not* a little kid." Blair said as he tried to swat away Jim's hands with his good arm.

"Listen Junior, hold still or I'll break the other arm." Jim grumbled as he finally managed to lift his struggling guide up and sit him on the exam table.

Dr. Shelby heard the last sentence. She felt her anger grow. Without a second thought she threw the door open and rushed inside. Her angry words died in her throat as she got her first look at her patient. Dr. Shelby looked at the young man then at the chart. What she had assumed was a smudge in front of the eight in the age box was really a two, her patient was twenty eight not eight. The story of the counter top was growing even harder to believe.

After several x-rays, and a consult with Blair's Orthopedic Doctor, Dr. Shelby was convinced that the fall hadn't re-injured the arm. Then she began to apply a new cast, stopping once to hold up two rolls of gauze. "Which do you prefer, pink bunnies or blue lambs?"

"You have got to be kidding, don't you have plain white?" Blair asked, but he could see the answer in Dr. Shelby's eyes. "Lambs."

"Lambs it is." The Dr. said, as she began to wrap the cast. "I've always thought the lambs were the cutest myself.

"It's only for two more weeks, I can handle cute for two weeks." Blair mumbled to himself.

Dr. Shelby heard him. "More like four weeks. There all done." She began removing her gloves and placed them and the other trash in the trash can.

"Your mistaken....." Blair said, shaking his head and looking a bit nervous. " I've already had it four weeks, I only have two left." His eyes held a pleading quality.

"Unfortunately the bone is not healing as quickly as it should. I spoke with your Doctor, and he agrees four more weeks are in order."

Blair placed his Jacket over his cast before entering the waiting room. When Jim and Danielle saw him they met him halfway.

"So, what did the doctor say?" Danielle asked.

"I didn't hurt it, but I've got to wear the cast for four more weeks." Blair's dissatisfaction was evident in his voice. "She said the bone wasn't healing fast enough." He pouted.

"Well at least you got a fresh cast. The other one was getting pretty grungy, and you were running out of room for phone numbers." Jim joked.

"So let me see, I bet with all the nurses around here, your cast is well on its way to being covered again." Danielle said.

"No, really guys. Can we just go home?"

Jim could hear the embarrassment in Blair's voice. The usually energetic anthropologist was being just a little too quiet and shy for Jim's comfort. "Oh, must be something juicy, if he doesn't want us to see it." Finally unable to take the suspense any longer, Jim pulled the jacket off the cast.

"Blair, its so adorable." Danielle said between laughs.

Blair rolled his eyes and looked up at Jim for support, only to see tears in his friends eyes from trying to control his own laughter. Blair sighed heavily, "Can we go now."

"Sure junior, lets just sign you out and then we can go."

Blair climbed into the back seat of Danielle's truck and opened the red lolly pop that the nurse had given him, when she slipped her phone number into his shirt pocket. 'I like a man that is comfortable with his masculinity enough to wear lambs.' she said, before giving him a quick kiss. Suddenly the cast hadn't seemed so bad.

"So Danielle." Blair began slowly, using his best puppy dog eyes when Danielle turned around to face him.

"Yes Blair?" Danielle asked, knowing what was coming next.

"Well......I was wondering, since I have to wear this thing for another four weeks, do you think we could try this again. I promise I won't fall asleep and if I do you can always wake me up."

Danielle looked into those big blue eyes, watching Blair slowly flutter his eyelashes which made him look so vulnerable, and felt herself melt. "Yes Blair, I think that can be arranged."
