*Journal of Derek Rayne
I sit here thinking of all my past misteaks. What would I have done differently, and was their some indication that my father was in league with the darkside that I missed. It's not as if we saw each other alot as I was a child, he was always off on Legacy business while mother minded Ingrid and me.
Sometimes he would disappear for weeks at a time. Is that when he had turned? I still do not know, but it haunts me, day and night. Was there anything I could do to prevent his turning? Or am I just fooling myself.
Sloan's sacrifice was like a slap to my face. Having to call London and speak to his wife, Patricia was even worse. But I was hopeful we would get him back. But how? Was it even possible? There is so much I need to do and I don't even know when to start.

Derek Rayne looked out the window, trying to decide what best to do. He had told Alex and Nick he was staying, but the more he thought of it, the more he needed to speak to his mother. And a phone call just wasn't good enough. He would have to go home.
"You wanted to see us, boss?" Nick's tentative voice came from the doorway.
"Yes, " Derek smiled slightly as Nick, Alex and Rachel filed into his office. "I have decided to visit my mother. I must tell her, if no one else what happened here. I know I said I would be staying, but...."
"It's alright Derek." Rachel smiled understandingly, she had been filled in on the events. "You need to work this out."
"Yes, I do." Derek sighed. "My flight leaves tomorrow morning. I'm scheduled to stop in New York for three hours then across to Europe. If you need me, you know where to reach me."
"Hey, we know this isn't what you WANT to do, but your right, it's something you NEED to do. Both for yourself and your mother." Alex looked sympathetic.
Derek hazzarded a look at Nick, he hadn't told him he was leaving. Nick looked slightly sullen and distracted. "That will be all, I need to go and pack. Nick? Would you mind staying a bit, your running the house while I am gone."
"Oh God." Alex mock-groaned.
Nick shot her a dirty look, somewhat amused. He stayed seated in his chair as the others filed out.
There was silence in the room, neither man spoke.
"Well," Nick began, not meeting Derek's eyes. "I guess you were going to tell me sooner or later."
"I made up my mind this morning. It wasn't an easy decision, but I have to go."
"I know." Came the quiet answer. "Just hurry up and come home after, ok?"
"Ok." Derek echoed, drawing a smile from his lover. "But we still have tonite?"
"Oh yeah!" Nick grinned, eyes crinkling merrily and Derek lost himself in that face for a long time.

"Are you here?" A short, slightly portly gentleman called into the darkness of the deserted warehouse.
"I came as you requested." Called another from the darkness, voice lost in the cavernous room. "But who are you to call me here?"
"I am going to be the Legacy's next ruler, and I need help to stabilize the organization." The man calle dback, trying to find where the voice was floating at him from, and failing. It seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere.
"As you are not yet elected, I have a hard time seeing myself doing your bidding." The sarcasm dripped from the voice.
"Oh but you will do as I say!" Now the gentleman was grinning. "I know who you are, Mr. Colin Brenandon!"
"Oh Shit!" the Hound sighed, what do I do this time. Kill him or listen?
"And I know where to find the ones you care for!" the man threw a necklace onto the floor. Colin recognized it in the dim light and swore.
"What do you want me to do?" Colin called out, dreading the answer. "I need to purge the Legacy of all evil. Starting with Dr. Derek Rayne and his entire House!"
*Journal of Nick Boyle
Derek left today and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to go wrong and i was going to lose him forever. I think he sensed something too, but didn't want to say anythig in front of Alex and Rachel.
I am hoping my suspicions/hunches are wrong but....... I know myself and if I learned anything in my life, it's to trust those senses. Derek predictibly left me with no interesting cases and tons of paperwork. I briefly wondered what I was going to tell Sloan when he called, but immediately remembered what had happened not a week before.
Sloan. I have to say I respested the man's comittment to the Legacy and it's continuing advancement against the forces of the Dark. He and Derek had an uneasy past, but I thouhgt things were going well now. I wonder if they were lovers? Hmm... jealousy rearing it's ugly head, not ALL of Derek's past friends were lovers... but then again, who knows.
I just want him to hurry back before something more goes wrong. I have to join Alex in a search for something Derek wanted on the nature of the Sepulchers later. I think he is hoping to get Sloan back. I hope we can do it.

Alex looked up as Nick entered the controll room, several reports in his hand and a disgruntled look on his expressive face. He actually lookad alot like Derek when he was annoyed with all the paperwork.
"Anything yet?" Nick asked, distractedly reading something before him.
"Nothing. Whatever Sloan knew about the Sepulchers, isn't archived anywhere in the Legay Database." Alex shook her head. "And the only one who knows the library better than Derek is Philip."
"Yeah, too bad he was recalled to Rome." Nick sighed.
After the Ravenwood incident, Philip had decided to re-evaluate his life in the priesthood and Rome had called him there for counceling and support. Very few of Philip's peers ever found out he was raped, and those few that did know kept their mouths shut. Still, Philip relly hadn't wanted to leave San Francisco, but he had to do as he was ordered.
"You kow, we could give him a call." Alex brightened. "There might be something in the Vatican' extensive libraries."
"True, but has he had a chance to look that place over?" Nick smiled suddenly, Philip probably had re-organized the thing by now. He looked at Alex who raised an eyebrow at him, obviously thinking the very same thing. "Ok, lets heck time zones and give him a call."
-----------------------------------------------------
Derek Rayne walked throught the New York airport to his connecting flight. Like Nick he had sensed something was wrong, but couldn't put his finger on it. Then his vision blured and he was hit with a sudden vision.
///A shot rang out of the dark and Derek watched in horror, unable to prevent anything, as first Alex, then Rachel and then Nick fell to the floor covered in blood. Derek looked into the face of the assailiant and gasped in shock.///
Derek shook his head as the vision left him. It had been brief, but intence. somthing was terribly wrong. He had to call Nick. As pre-occupied as he was, he missed the arms reaching out for him. Derek felt himself pulled into the shadowy corner and a hand was placed over his mouth, preventing him from crying out. In the hand was a cloth that was pressed to his nose. Chloroform. Derek was soon unconscious.
-------------------------------------------------
"Do you have him?" The voice on the phone inquired.
"I do." Colin replied.
"Then bring him to me. Alive and unhurt if you would." There was little misteaking the malice even across the phone.
"We'll be in London in a few hours." Colin growled, slamming the phone down. He looked at his bound captive. He really liked Derek and his team, but what was he to do? He had a feeling his 'contact' truely didn't have the Legacy's best interests at heart.
Then the hint on an idea formed and Colin smiled. Time would be short if he was to save all of their lives.
