What the heck is MST3K, anyway?!

Glad you asked that. Here's the entire plot of the show, 1988 to present. Two mad scientists, Dr. Clayton Forrester (Trace Beaulieau) and Dr. Lawrence Erhardt (Josh Weinstein), shot janitor Joel Robinson (Joel Hodgson) into space on the Satellite of Love. Their objective? To send Joel the worst movies ever made, while monitoring his mind from their lab in Deep 13. Once they find the one that makes him snap, they unleash it on the unwitting public so that they can rule the world! However, Joel knows the secret of surviving a B-Movie: Heckle it mercilessly!! Anyway, to keep from getting lonely, Joel made four robots to keep him company: Cambot, who never talks, but tapes the show; Gypsy (voice of Jim Mallon up to episode 815, voice of Patrick Brantseg from 815 on), a motherly type who maintains all the higher functions of the ship; Tom Servo (voice of Josh Weinstein through season one, voice of Kevin Murphy season two to present), a well-read, sensitive robot with a gumball machine for a head; and Crow T. Robot (Voice of Trace Beaulieau through season seven, voice of Bill Corbett from season eight on), a wise@$$ birdlike robot who writes the occasional screenplay. After about a year or two, Dr. Erhardt mysteriously disappeared, so Dr. Forrester hired a new lab assistant, TV's Frank (Frank Conniff). Things ran pretty smoothly, until auditing time in Deep 13. To help organize, they hired a temp by the name of Mike Nelson (Michael J. Nelson), with the intention of doing away with him. Overhearing their conversation about this, Gypsy assumed they were talking about Joel, and decided that she had to get him off the satellite. With the help of Mike, she managed to find an escape pod in a big box marked "Hamdingers." Upon hearing of this, Dr. F. was furious (with Frank more than anyone else), but before he could do anything, Joel had safely landed in the Australian outback. In order to right the situation, he did the only mad thing to do: send Mike up into space! About a year went by, with Mike and the Bots riffing away at the movies, with Frank and Forrester monitoring, until Frank was submitted into heaven by Torgo the White (An angelic version of the "Monster" from "Manos," the Hands of Fate, the worst movie ever heckled), sending Dr. F. into dispondancy. To cheer him up, his mother, Pearl Forrester (Mary Jo Pehl), came to live with him. Shortly afterward, Dr. F's funding was cut, forcing him to cut the Umbilicus, a tetherline attaching the SOL to Deep 13. To keep from burning up in Earth's atmosphere, Mike gained control of the ships guidance system, taking them to the edge of the universe, turnig Mike and the Bots into pure energy and turning Dr. F. into a "star baby."

Sorry you asked yet?

When Mike and the Bots returned to the SOL, They found it orbiting Earth in the year 2525, which is ruled by apes, including Prof. Bobo (Kevin Murphy), who worship Pearl, who froze herself in order to carry out her son's last request after she smothered him. Once Mike accidentally assisted in the destruction of Earth, Pearl and Bobo persued the SOL in her souped up VW bus until they got to a planet run by the Observers, who carry their brains around in pans. Once Mike blew up that planet, too, Pearl and Bobo escaped with one of the Observers (Bill Corbett).
Well, that's all the important stuff.

Sorry you asked?
