Q. Who is Trumpy?
A. Trumpy, as stated earlier, is the monster from Pod People.
Q. Okay, let me rephrase that: What's so great about Trumpy?
A. For one thing, he's a riot to look at. First, he's short (They probably found some poor eight-year-old to play him), and covered in fur. But his head is the funniest part. It's totally bald, comes to a point on top, has unnaturally blue eyes, huge ears, and a nose like a fire hose (hence the name "Trumpy"). In fact, he looks a little... something... like... this:
Q. So that's all that qualifies him to have his own fan club?
A. Didn't I mention that he can do magic things (see "What's the deal with that kid")? Well he does! You see, his eyes light up, and he turns lamps on, and he makes the kid's telescope really powerful, and carnival music plays, and there's lots of stop-motion, and shirts fly all over the place, and the shoes dance on their own, and then Trumpy's on the ceiling, and the cat's confused, and-- oh, forget it.
Q. What's the deal with that kid?
A. No one quite knows for sure. Tommy has red hair, he's really smart, he has lots of pets (specimins), he finds Trumpy and tries to teach him to play, and he's the coiner of the phrase "You can do magic things!" No further information is available about Tommy. Oh yeah, and his uncle keeps a bar in the house (Urp!).
Q. And what about the poachers?
A. What about them?
Q. I mean, what's the deal with them?
A. Oh. Sorry. Ummm... they mumble a lot, they steal eggs, and they die.
Q. And the band?
A. They're horrible. Like the lead singer says: "It stinks!"
Q. Why, oh, why in God's name was this movie made??
A. Believe it or not, director Juan Piquer presented this film to Steven Spielberg, under the title "The Return of ET," as a sequel to that alien movie. He even threw in extra things to appeal to American audiences (Pictures of Washington & Reagan, Red Sox & Bruins penants, and the assumed name "J. Piquer Simon")
Q. Are you sure that's what happened?
A. Surprisingly, yes.
Q. Why didn't Spielberg accept it?
A. **SMACK**
Q. Why is there only one picture on this site?
A. You may not have noticed it, but thebackground of this page is tiled with an actual scene from Pod People! It may look like a plain grey background, but it's actually a shot of the woods. Y'see, they reeeeally overdid it with the fog machine ;). Okay, so maybe it is just a plain grey background, but it's danged near impossible to tell the difference.
