I first found out about my family's involvement in the movies when I saw my father’s name in the TV Guide. I was in the seventh grade and already interested in old movies. This was sometime around the fall of 1960 and I was thumbing through the TV Guide and came across “Conflict” 1934, starring John Wayne, Jean Rogers, Tommy Bupp and Ward Bond. I couldn’t believe it! That was my name! When I showed it to my Mom, she casually said that it was my Dad, and acted like it was no big thing. My dad never talked about it and said that he never really liked being in the movies. Later I found out from my grandmother that my Aunts June and Ann, and my Uncle Mac (Sonny), were also in the movies. Not just in the movies, but in lots of them. Over 160 of them in my “List” so far and it is growing.
The Bupp Family moved to the west coast from New York, during the height of the Depression. Starting in Tacoma,Washington and working their way down California through Oakland, and finally settling in Alhambra, California. This move was for their father's health as well as a move for a better job. June was a very beautiful woman and was asked to audition for a movie. My grandmother, known as Granny Lou to us kids, was a very aggressive woman and wanted all five of her children in show business. All but Paul, made it. My Uncle Mac, hints that his mother may have had aspirations of being an actress herself. She (Luella Bupp) certainly had a interest in being involved in some way with show business.
