STORY: Harvey, the spoiled son of millionaire Cheyne, is suspended from boarding school. Although a loving parent Mr. Cheyne, a widower, is too busy to notice his son's bullying and snobbishness. Hoping to change things he takes Harvey on a boat trip, but on the first day he falls overboard from sickness after drinking too many sodas in a childish bet with two other boys. He is picked up by a Happy-go-luckyPortuguese fisherman named Manuel, who brings back his "Little Fish" to a schooner out of Gloucester. Because they have no radio, Harvey must stay on board until after the summer catch. The men dislike him and call him "Jonah," but he becomes a hard working, friendly shipmate under Manuel's gruff guidance. Affection grows between Harvey and Manuel, and Harvey looks forward to being with his friend when they reach land. On the return trip to port, Manuel is critically injured and pulled under with the rigging. Back in Gloucester, Mr. Cheyne tries to talk to Harvey, but he prefers to cry in Manuel's dinghy. At a dedication of a Monument to Men Lost at Sea, Harvey and his father thow wreaths into the water and clasp hands. Harvey tells his father fishing stories as their limousine pulls away towing Manuels dinghy.
