STORY: Mary Smith, a school teacher in Battleburo, is planning to marry Clem Porter, but he insists on a honeymoon in nearby Sioux City so there will not be a conflict with his bowling schedule. Mary is tired of small-town life and books a cruise for Europe and promises Clem that she will return when she has seen the world. On board, Mary poses as a sophisticate and meets Mr. and Mrs. Rutherford and their accomplice "Smacksey," who has just stolen $100,000 from a U.S. bank. Also on the ship are British "gentleman" Joe Gillig, and American detective John Wade, who says he's a school teacher. They compete for Mary's attention. When the Rutherfords see John on board, they have Smacksey hide the money in Mary's trunk. When they notice Mary getting friendly with John, they try to retrieve the money, but the trunk has been moved to the baggage compartment filled with hundreds of look-alike trunks. Joe recognizes Frank as "Thousand Percent Rutherford" and offers to trade "cool" English money for "hot" American money. That night, as Mary is kissing Joe on deck, John interrupts, hits Joe and kisses Mary, who then slaps him. All decide to go ashore in Monte Carlo, but before docking, Captain Enrico Mussetti of the French secret police suggests to John that all luggages should be searched. Trying to make-up with Mary, John doesn't search her luggage and the money makes it safely to shore. At the Hotel, Mary discovers the money, but Smacksey slips a note under the door warning her to keep quite and promising a cut in the take. Joe asks Mary for a date and she tells him about the money. Mary now suspicious of John for not searching her luggage, hides the money in the chandelier. Mussetti is suspicious of Mary and identifies "English Joe" to John, but he assures her innocence. Meanwhile, Clem arrives in Monte Carlo, and when Mary gives him her Roulette winnings, John thinks Clem is one of the crooks. The Rutherfords, Smacksey and Joe follow Mary to her compartment and demand the money. John arrives with Clem, claiming he found the thief and the loot, just as Mussetti's men open fire. Everyone drops to the floor and the money falls from the chandelier. Mussetti arrests the thieves and John promises he will take care of Mary by marrying her.
