My Obsession with RHPS

My obsession with the Rocky Horror Show began at an early age – I think I first saw the film when I was 5-years-old. My mum had American friends, who’s children were a few years older than me. When they came to visit, we would dress up as Magenta, Columbia and Riff-Raff and act out the film in front of the TV (a bit of a mini-cast!). My mum is the costume mistress of Phoenix Theatre which makes it easy for me to get cossies.

The stage show came up to Aberdeen in 1994 (when I was 12-years-old) and I went to see it with my friend Rebecca and her mum and brother. I really wanted to dress up because I had read in a Rocky Horror book my mum had that everyone did. But I didn’t think anyone would in Aberdeen, so I just wore dark make-up and a goth-like long, floaty dress. However, when we got to the theatre, everyone seemed to be in costume. Even though we had a great laugh that night using our props and yelling out the few AP lines we knew, I couldn’t wait for the next time the tour came up,, and I swore I would get a huge group of people to dress up and go and see it. It eventually came up in September 1998 and I got a huge group of people organised really fast and got tickets for the Saturday late night performance, six rows from the front of the stage! So about 10 of my friends and I went to see it in full costume, yelling millions of AP lines the whole way through!

I’m in Phoenix Theatre and I would love to do the RHS the way it was originally done – small budget, theatre and number in cast. And I’d have to be Magenta, because I’m not a particular Columbia fan and, although Janet's a good part with some cool songs - she's a SLUT!

My ambition is to see the RHPS with a cast. I was in London in early April and found the cinema that is the home of the Charming Underclothes performing cast. However, we (me and Rebecca) were already seeing a show that night. And we didn't want to be the normally dressed people that I always take the mickey out of. So we'll just have to go back in our full costumes.

Talking of costumes, I'm going to scan some photos of my friends and I so you can see us in our fab full cossies!
