To start out my opinion about the Titanic rush that is sweeping my small
town, and in turn the world, I would just like to say that I have nothing against
the film itself, or the actors.

There are quite a few things about the movie Titanic and its production that
I have to get off my chest...One being the idiotic fans that continue to
bombard me, telling me that I have to see it. Let me clarify one thing, when I
first heard the James Cameron was making a movie about the Titanic, I was thrilled.
I couldn't wait to see it. But the thing that really drowned my interest
is people telling me that I have to see it. These were people who didn't know my
kind of taste, and in normal circumstances wouldn't know a good film if it came up and
kicked them in the face. They are also the same people who don't care one bit about
my opinion, so I have to ask why should I care about theirs? I also have had to deal
with so much crap because I haven't seen it, but its not like I'm more alienated than
I was before. It is my choice not to see it. I might watch it when it comes out on
video, but I am NOT going to spend three and a half hours sitting in a cinema watching
a movie that I wouldn't fully enjoy because of all the blubbering around me.

The next thing is the sudden verge onto Leonardo DiCaprio. The man is extremely talented, yes,
but I do not consider him a sex symbol, or even that attractive. I saw him in What's Eating
Gilbert Grape and was VERY impressed with his acting ability. I have watched him in
other films (excluding Romeo & Juilet) and liked his performance. I exclude Romeo & Juliet because
that is another one that I don't like, and yes I've seen that one (against my will).
It is kind of annoying to me when people care about people because of their looks, and don't
give a toss about the actor's ability to ACT!

The last thing and possibily the thing the upsets me the most is the soundtrack to Titanic.
The last time that I was at K-Mart, I counted 98 copies of the Titanic soundtrack...HELLO?!
Doesn't that bother anyone else? Yes, Celine Dion's song is beautiful, but I have a HUGE problem
with the people who buy the soundtrack and then think that James Horner's work is just fantastic.
One question, can you name something else that he did? No, they can't. That REALLY gets my blood boiling.
They buy one CD that is mostly score music, and then they think that they are an expert with scores.
I've gotten to the point where when the music comes on at the beginning of the film I can
identify the composer. I probably have over 50 scores in my possesion, and the only thing
that I can say to them stay away from me, you have no idea what you are talking about. When Horner
did get the Oscar, I had to applaud, but at the same time ask where the hell the Academy was two years
ago at the 1995 Oscars. Horner was nominated twice as best score (Braveheart, Apollo 13) along with
a few other EXCELLENT composers. And the Oscar went to Luis Bacalov, for The Postman. AHHHHHHHH!!!!
Over the past couple of years the Academy have had their head up their butts.
