The Kane Hodder Interview Part 2
Interview by Ziggy, Margaret & Jake
For those of you who don’t know, Kane played Jason Vorhees in Friday The 13th 7, 8, and 9.
What have you been doing since "Jason Goes To Hell"?
Kane - Most recently I did Wishmaster and Most Wanted. In Wishmaster I get killed, and I did stunts in Most Wanted. I've also done a Taco Bell commercial and lots of other commercials for different products, and I did stunts for Spawn and Batman Forever.
Do you enjoy stunts or acting more? Why?
Kane - I enjoy doing both but I really love parts where I get to act and do stunts. Although acting hurts less. But I get paid more for stunts.
Did you enjoy making "SPAWN"? What stunts did you do?
Kane - I only worked on it a week, I guess it was fun. I was killed wearing a tux in the banquet scene by Spawn, and I also played an "A-6" guard who got killed.
Are you going to be in "Jason Vs. Freddy"?
Kane - If the deal is right.
Can you tell us anything about that project?
Kane - All I know is that they're going to be against each other. They're not friends. I'll give you the scoop after we start filming in January.
What do you do for fun when you're not working on movies?
Kane - Play sports and relax. I don't want to do any exciting shit 'cos I do that at work. I know this sounds sappy, but I love to play with my kids.
Yes readers, Kane has been married for 6 1/2 years and has 2 sons named Jace and Reed. Jace is 3 1/2 yrs. and Reed is 4 months.
Are you doing any other conventions or signings in the near future?
Kane - I'm tired of cons. They're not as fun as they used to be. After SW, I'm going to Skull Kingdom in Orlando FL, and then to Virginia Beach for 5 days for a haunted house thing. I'll be there from the 17th to the 21st.
What are some of your favorite movies?
Kane - My favorite movies that I've done are Friday part 7, Wishmaster, and Seven. But my favorite movies in general are The Exorcist, Blazing Saddles, and I think Ferris Bular's Day Off is a great movie!
Why have you been in all 3 "Best Of The Best" movies as a different character each time?
Kane - Because I know Philip Reed and he stars in and produces the movies. I guess he thinks I'm good luck.
Right about now a few patrons of Spooky World came to the table to introduce themselves. One girl told Kane she'd seen all of his movies...all 4 of them.....at which time Kane lost interest and began talking to us while she babbled. We asked if he's seen Scream yet, and he hadn't so we gave him the "Scream is the best horror movie in years" speech. Apparently he was supposed to do some stunts for Kenny, but they decided he wasn't right for the part. If you've seen Scream, he was supposed to fly off the van when Courtney Cox speeds away from the house, but Kenny is much...uh...rounder than Kane is. Finally the fans left and we continued the interview.
How did you get into stunts?
Kane - I did live stunt shows in Reno for awhile. The kinda stuff you'd see at Universal Studios. And I was crazy in high school. Once I climbed a 35 floor building and grabbed the railing and kept letting go and grabbing it just in time to not fall just to freak out my friends. After awhile, I went to LA to meet people and do professional stunts.
What's the most difficult stunt you've done?
Kane - Kenon Ivory Waynes slammed me into a marble floor a few times. The one in Fair Game where I jumped from the copter to the train was hard 'cos I was the last out of the copter and it started swerving all over the place. Plus, the train was moving and if you missed you were between the cars and you were dead.
Any funny stories about different jobs you've done?
Kane - When you do stunts you just show up, do the stunt and go home. You don't necessarily know anything about the movie or the plot. I did a movie called Trained To Kill. The stunt coordinator says to drive this car, swerve, hit some trash cans, swerve again, almost run over a chick, and go screeching around the corner - end of scene. I did it and went home. Later, I told my girlfriend's parents that I was in the movie and they should go see it. I described the part I was in. Well, they went to see it and when the scene came up it went something like this - In the finished print, the scene is a girl giving a guy a blow job while he's driving the car. To make it worse, in the entire scene you never see the actor's face so it looks like it's me the getting the blow job.
Any other embarrassing scenes other than that and playing Older Geek in "Hardbodies"?
Kane - I did a fight scene in a gay bar on a Mad Max tribute night. I had to dress like Master Blaster.
