AW's Jake received a major blow on the March 17 episode. He learned - in front of a courtroom full of people - that his wife, Vicky, had lied about being with ex-love Shane the night he died. Public humiliation like that could bring any man to his knees. But Jake stood tall, and so did Tom Eplin (Jake).

Jake was arrested for negligence in Shane's death. Vicky came forward during the arraignment and confessed that she was with Shane at the cabin when Jake called to warn Shane about the hazardous road conditions. Jake tried to convince himself - and Vicky, it seemed - that she was lying just to save him, but one look in Vicky's eyes, and he knew the truth.

Still, he needed to hear it all. The anguish and devastation that registered on Jake's face as Vicky detailed the night's events, not to mention his realization of the lengths to which Vicky had gone to keep her secret, was heartbreaking. Eplin was fabulous conveying Jake's every emotion, from denial to rage.

And boy, was there rage. Vicky - played wonderfully by Jensen Buchanan - sat there practically speechless as Jake, tears flowing down his face, went after her, firing question after question. There were times when his anger was so overpowering, the words so eloquent and Eplin's acting so on the mark that I forgot there was a courtroom full of people watching.
