Late 1300's - Hanging called, "Roots of Jesus" from Lower Saxony. From a church in Nordsteimke, near Wolfsburg.
This hanging measures 289 x 221 cm and depicts Jesus' family tree. The background is blue and the border red. the appliqued leather strips and the embroidered faces were originally gold. The center section of the quilt is an appliqued stylized tree with names written into the branches. A vine with flowers fills the spaces between the branches. There are several small hills at the base of the center that the tree grows from. The wide border is filled with irregular circular shapes with human figures in each one. Smaller vines and leaves fill the area in the border as well.
