German Quilt

1500's - A quilted linen blanket from Germany.

This is a white on white whole cloth quilt. The quilting design consists to a repeating octogon pattern with various figures quilted inside each octogon. A square is formed in the spaces between the octogons. The edges of the quilt have been frayed to form fringe. (Gwinner p 15)

There is a corded border around each of the octogons. There are animal figures inside the octogons whihc are stuffed after being outlined in backstitch. It is also made of corser linen. (Staniland p 40)
