1573 - Zenobia Applique Hanging


"The warrior queen, Zenobia, from one of the large applique hangings c. 1573. Her clothes and the archetectural setting are cut from rich fabrics salvaged from ecclesiastical vestments, including cut-velvets, patterned clothes of cold, and multi-coloured silk damasks, with details embroidered with metal threads, partly over padding, and applied silk and metal bobbin lace.
