"This unusual Indian chintz quilt fromthe Coromandel Coast was made between 1700 and 1725 and is a magnificent example of the type of quilt exported to Holland and oher European countries during the 18th century. It has a center medallion, corner ornaments, and in-fill patterns of flowering stems, feathers, and birds, while the red border has a pattern of grotesques. It is padded with wool and silk and quilted with silk thread. The quilt is lined with green silk, which reveals the exceedingly fine quality of the quilting." (page 40-41)
"A magnificent Indian chintz quilt in a traditional 'Tree of Live' design. It is from around 1720 and is another quilt exported to Holland. The border is 16 inches (40 cm) wide and has a winding branch and flowers. The quilt is backed in cream-colored silk and the quilting over the entire piece follows the pattern of the chintz on the top which because it is so elaborate, makes it difficult to 'read' the quilting pattern on the back."
