Yes, I know that that is impossible, but this one has some implications that I can read. Maybe it is jsut me, but........here it is:

In the November issue of Teen People 1998, there was the following article about 'N Sync. Wait! The Backstreet Boys are mentioned about everyother paragraph...though not always in glowing terms. Though no mud was slung, I feel that some dust was blown their way.

getting 'n sync

How the other boy band from Orlando got their start-and how they're handling their fast rise to stardom.
*(personal note from me,meaning not a quote from the article, is that I am snipping my way through it to the stuff that only mentions BSB. If you want the whole article, I may put it up later. All of my notes will be in blue.

FIVE GOOD-LOOKING GUYS FROM FLORIDA
form a singing group, make it big overseas
and then bring their catchy pop songs back
home, where they instantly captivate the
American teen market.

Hmmmm. Does this tune sound a little
familiar? Yes and no. It's true that, on the
surface, 'N Sync's story certainly reads like
Backstreet Boys:The Sequel. They have the same manager (Johnny Wright, also of New Kids on the Block fame), (I didn't know this, but then again, I don't give a rip about 'N Sync), the same home base (Orlando) and the same secret weapon (a sexy blond-the baby of the band-guranteed to melt female masses). This I liked. But spend with the tight-knit quintet-James Lance Bass, 19; Joey Fatone Jr., 21; Chris Kirkpatrick, 26; Joshua "JC" Chasez, 22; and Jsutin Timberlake (the noted blond), 17-and you'll find that they're as different from Backstreet as Third Eye Blind is from Matchbox 20.

First, though you'll have to get BSB off the brain-not an easy taks here at Orlando's Trans Continental studios, 'N sync's recording base. It's hard enough making a Christmas album in August, but try doing it surrounded by constant reminders that you're the city's second-most famous sons. Backstreet platinum records, posters and other paraphernalia line the walls of the reception area. And at the end of the hall, there's a framed picture of Aaron Carter, Backstreet Boy Nick's little brother. Backstreet's Back Alright!

Turn the corner...snip...

friendly competitionAnother that has 'N Sync feeling good is the late-summer news that their album has overtook Backstreet's on the Billboard 200. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! they are losing in MTV's Total Request too. Even before BSB TV, BSB was stil number two. Vote on MTV. Scroll down on the left to total request live, then click on play my song in the middle column BSB is the first listed. But the guys aren't gloating....yet. "It's not like we want to compete with one or two bands," Justin says. Joey agrees: "There's room enough for everybody."

The part I don't like

Tell that to Backstreet. The Boys are said to be more than a little miffed by what they view as their own manager's attempt to rerplicate their success with another group. However, while Johnny Wright acknowledges that there was some initial concern (I won't say that we didn't go through that phase...For so long we were this team together, and they were the only ones"), he instists that the Boys have since adjusted.

...snip....

Johnny.."I wouldn't dismiss the possibiilty of 'N Sync and Backstreet making a record together."

...snip...

Still, music industry experts contend that without a Backstreet, there wouldn't have been an 'N Sync. "the Backstreet Boys paved the way and made people, including MTV, pay attention to this style of music and these kinds of groups," says Lewis Largent, MTV's vice president of music. "With their success, record companies went out and tried to sign bands like them-'N Sync and 5 for example."

opportunity knocks

Backstreet Boys also inadvertantly gave 'N Sync the break of their career when they turned down the chance to do a concert for the Disney Channel, which was then offered to 'N Sync. After the show started airing this apst July 18, sales soared and fan mail began pouring in. This makes me woozy thiinking that the group knocking BSB out from 1 right now, was let in through BSB because of their tour. And I watched Disney's n sync concert. i feel so ahsamed. so unloyal.

...snip...

That is all of the BSB stuff there. but is there an innuendo there about why the BSB and the Wright's quit working together or is it jsut me? Maybe it is and i'll take it down or jsut put the whole thing up since it mentions the BSB. What do you think. Sign my guestbook, do my survey, or email me and let me know.
