On "Profiler," Peter Frechette plays a
supreme computer hacker who works for
an elite crime task force, and the actor
says the role has inspired him to join the
computer age. "George is kind of a
cyber-freak who is dedicated to his work,"
says Frechette. "I'm passionate about my
job, but I wasn't into computers until I did
the pilot. Now I've become obsessed with
learning all about computers, and I just got my first one at home."
Frechette was born and raised in Coventry, R.I., the youngest of five kids. His
late father was an efficiency expert, and his mother is a retired nurse. Frechette
earned a B.F.A. in theater from the University of Rhode Island and then moved
to New York, where he stayed for two years while appearing in off-Broadway
plays.
In 1982, Frechette went to Los Angeles for a co-starring role in "Grease 2," but
he made frequent trips back to New York for stage and TV work. In 1988 he
returned to Manhattan full-time to co-star on Broadway in "Eastern Standard," and
he earned a Tony Award nomination for his work. He also earned a Tony
nomination for his performance in "Our Country's Good." Among his other stage
credits are "Raised in Captivity," "Night and Her Stars," "The Play's the Thing"
and "The Destiny of Me."
On television, Frechette was a regular on the series "Dream Street" and last
year's "Matt Waters" (as a sympathetic journalism teacher with a drinking
problem). Earlier, in 1990, he guest-starred as a gay man in a controversial
episode of "thirtysomething," earning an Emmy nomination for his performance.
He also guest-starred on "Picket Fences," "Law & Order," "Cagney & Lacey,"
"New York News," "The Burning Zone," and "L.A. Law." His TV movies include
"Against Her Will: The Carrie Buck Story," "Barbarians at the Gate" and, most
recently, "Chasing the Dragon."
Frechette's upcoming feature films are "Milk and Money" and "First Wives Club."
His other films include "Paint It Black," "No Small Affair," "The Kindred" and "The
Unholy."
In his leisure time, he enjoys reading, working out, and attending movies and
improvisational-comedy clubs. Frechette lives in the Hollywood Hills.
