Brief Character History: Bette's best friend is Olivia Richards. When Bette and Olivia were young, they assisted in kidnapping Elaine's baby. Bette's then husband, an OB/GYN, convinced Elaine her son was dead. Elaine now knows that Cole is her long-lost son but doesn't know that Bette and Olivia played a role in the charade.
Bette has a good heart and a big mouth. She writes the gossip column for Sunset Beach's newspaper, The Sentinel. She's always trying to squeak dirt out of her acquaintances for use in her column.
Aboard a charity cruise, Bette reunited with her daughter, Emily. Bette apologized to Emily for all the years she hasn't been there for her. Emily had a hard time forgiving her mother, but after a talk with cousin Annie, Emily decided to give her mother another chance.
