Now I know that everyone likes Bruce Willis. So how can you not like his new video game, Apocalypse. Using great 3-D backgrounds Apocalypse impressed me from the very beginning. You take over the role of Trey Kincaide, an escapee from the highest security prison, trying to save the world from an Apocalypse, caused by the Four Horseman, and in the meantime save a diva named Mary! Wooh, I know it seems a little tough to hold down without rolling up your dinner but really it's a good story and it keeps you deeply involved. The Four Horsemen are Death, War, Plague, and the Beast. Boy, and are they nasty, big, and hard to beat if you don't realize their attacking styles right away.
The graphics are great, especially the FMV sequences. Although few and short these scenes are sock-knocking. The in game graphics are great. The background light is especially nice. Lava, green, white, blue, and yellow light are all used and work well in their specific environments. The only problems that I have with the graphics are the faces. No one has really been able to master the faces except Capcom and Konami (you guess the games). Sounds are great also. Some rockin' holy music and gunfire is prominent through most of the game as well as your common explosion, scream, and glass shattering crunches. To even out the meat and potatoes the controls are perfect for this type of game and original. You know it's a shoot'em up when all of the action buttons are fire. They each fire their respective directions and the shoulders are used for jumping, rolling, and changing weapons.
Overall this is really a top notch game and a must buy if you like the genre. If you don't I would still give it at least a couple of rents so that you can beat it.
