You know, why they call this game Freestyle Boardin '99 I have no idea. There is no freedom at all. Anywhere you see an opening in the track it is covered by an invisible wall. The tricks are near impossible to land in the downhill event also. The half-pipe and long-jump options are one straight track each with the jumps. Quite frankly, this is the kind of game that disgraces a good company, and believe me it has done it. Capcom apparently didn't even test the game for its horrible control (by the way there is no crouching to speed up, you stand at walking pace throughout the races). Not only that but I think that they just did the game so that they would have a snowboarding game under their belt. One track for the events and only a few more on the downhill is absolutely unacceptable in the world of snowboarding games. The tracks are completely uninspired. They are all set in caverns and jumps are just drop offs that say trick on them. I was also never able to land a good jump in the downhill because they would just stop in the middle of the trick.

The graphics are comparable, maybe, to Cool Boarders (yeah the first one). The backgrounds are almost 2.5 dimensional and the characters are just 3 basic shapes: the arm and leg stick thing, the lop-sided head, and the rectangular body. Oh, and the sounds they're good. The music is kind of nice, but it doesn't matter because the game sucks, and the popcorn bag sound of the so-called snow that you pass over drowns out the tunes. The snow that you leave in your wake looks like a set of golf balls being shot out of the back of your board. The controls are so unresponsive when you turn, partially because of the fact that there is no crouch, that you are forced to use the "carve" which is actually hitting brake while turning.

Overall, the game sucks on a rotten deviled egg. Whatever you do don't make the mistake I did and rent it. And for certain don't buy the piece 'o poo!
