Roles of our lives...

Call this an overanalytical way of looking at this film. Every character symbolizes an emotion we come to deal with in our lives. Here are some that i believe in:

Lloyd - love, of course. Many of us are like Lloyd when we are in love. Nothing can stand in our way of the things we love, not a jealous, incarcerated dad, disbelieving friends, or even a limited time frame. Lloyd does everything he can to win Diane's heart and keep it. When he succeeds, we succeed.

Diane - confusion. Diane does not know what to do with her stellar life. She is torn between Lloyd, her father, her mother, and her fellowship. She has little time, and major issues to deal with. She loves her dad who lied to her, and she loves Lloyd who is hated by her father, she loves her mother who is not to fond of her father, and she loves to learn as well. She wants to be happy, and she wants everyone else to be happy as well.

Jim Court - jealousy. Jim wants the best for his daughter and has given all he can for her. He feels threatened when another man, Lloyd, comes in to her life and steal her heart. He wants her to break up with Lloyd so that she can be with him instead.

Corey - this is a hard one to place... I guess i would have to say obsession. We have all had that one boyfriend/girlfriend who has messed with our heads and drove us wild. Having been taking advantage of is hard to come to terms with. We have all dialed six out of seven digits of that significant other's number and then hung up or convieniently driven by their house to see if they were home. If Corey can get over it, we all can.

D.C. - wanting to be accepted. D.C. never really speaks her own mind in the movie, only once in the guitar shop. She goes along with whatever Corey or other people are saying. She doesn't do much because she doesn't want to get in the way. D.C. more represents our passive roles in life, a sidekick so to say.

Joe - the abuser. Proud of it or not, we have all used someone to get what we want. It's a thing we have to deal with at least once in our life. We may feel guilty and bad after we do it, or we may feel proud and complete, but the deed is still done. Joe seems to get a kick out of it though. It can be fun sometimes...

Mike Cameron - What can I say? The man's a dork. Unlike D.C. who tries to be accepted, she is and Mike Cameron isn't. He tries hard to get friends and hang out with everyone. He wears weird clothing, and the hair...it's gotta go. Whether it's going to a new school, moving, or hanging out with new people; we, also, have tried too hard. Wanting people to like you is one thing, but passing out in a back bathroom and having someone you just met drive you home for 3 hours isn't a way to meet friends.
