GETTY VILLA

October 21, 2006

I had read about this place forever. This was where J. Paul Getty displayed his art collection and then it then moved to the Getty in Brentwood to be renovated. Now, the Villa is open to the public again and it was beautiful! It is modeled after the Villa del Papiri in Pompeii which was destroyed by Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD (I just visited Pompeii last year!!).

The amazing long pool. The courtyard has a lot of plants and pomengrate trees.

Another shot of the pool behind a column.

The grapevines, not in season yet.

A little pool with lily pads and papyrus plant (used for making paper back in the day!)

This is the extravagantly beautiful section where there are different colors of marble!

Compare this fountain to the one in Pompeii!

This is the original fountain! Isn't that too cool!

Another picture of the pretty mosaic fountain with another fountain.
