Dark, brooding but absorbing coming-of-age drama about two girls--one gay, one straight--whose friendship unravels after a fatal gay-bashing in their Hell's Kitchen neighborhood. The whole cast is excellent, but Folland as the shy budding lesbian is the emotional center. Powered by a terrific soundtrack featuring Patti Smith and Ani DiFranco, among others. Film's costars are also indie rockers: Briggs is the frontman of Psychotica, Hailey sings with The Murmurs.
