Animals Are Beautiful People
Released 1974
Directed by Jamie Uys
Filmmaker Jamie Uys worked for four years in the creation of this documentary record of animal behavior. He traveled through 100,000 miles of Africa's wilderness to provide a close-up look at natural wonders. In one unforgettable sequence, animal gorge themselves with overripe berries of the Marula tree. The fallen fruit has already begun to ferment, and the elephants, baboons (Papio), kudus and warthogs who feast on the fruit, soon find themselves in an inebriated state. Uys shows many species, with a tendency to anthropomorphize animal behavior and expressions.
