Homeward Bound is the light-hearted journey of three pets who cross the Sierra Navada mountains to return home to their family of humans. It's a live-action talking animal movie, but at least the animals only talk to themselves. Somehow they do this telepathically, because they don't need to bark or meow to do it. I suppose constant barking would have gotten annoying, so we just hear the voice-overs. The movie gets a little syrupy and sappy at times, and I think it would work best for pre-teens who have pets. For me, it was ok. I wasn't terribly interested, but wasn't really bored either. There are a lot of one-liners, and I laughed at several, but I wouldn't have lasted two minutes if my 5 year-old hadn't been sitting on my lap.
