Picking up the Pieces

Directed by Alfonso Arau

Woody Allen plays a butcher, who kills and dismembers his unfaithful wife (Sharon Stone). He buries her parts in the desert in Mexico, but accidentally drops a hand in the road. When a blind woman trips over it, it restores her sight, and it's subsequently considered the "hand of the Virgin." Despite the fallen priest's (David Schwimmer) objections, the ambitious mayor of the town (Cheech Marin) creates an international three-ring circus of miracle-seekers, TV crews, and local prostitutes. Meanwhile, a Texas patrolman (Kiefer Sutherland) is hot on the trail.

One of the cheesiest movies ever made -- and not in a good way! I watched this movie on Cinemax in stunned silence. It contains some of the most sophomoric writing and cheapest sight gags one can imagine outside of a frat-house revue. Summary by Karen Green
