Josh Waitzkin is a typical American boy, interested in baseball. One
day he plays chess with his father and wins, although he's only 10 years
old. Showing amazing aptitude, he begins playing speed chess at the outdoor
matches in New York City's Washington Square. Josh's parents hire him a
coach, and he begins playing tournaments. Everyone in the chess world is
looking for the next Bobby Fischer, and Josh looks like he may be it. The
movie is based on a true story, and its focus is the struggle to balance
a genius' gift with the need to have other interests in his life.
