Based on a true story about two former altar boys in California who
became spies for the Russians in the
mid-1970s. It starts with the decision of one of the boys, Christopher
Boyce, to leave a Jesuit school and abandon his plans to be a priest. He
takes a job arranged by his father, a retired FBI agent, in a company that
monitors CIA intelligence-gathering operations.
Boyce's job confirms the pattern of official lies he sees there, and he decides to use his boyhood friend, Andrew Daulton Lee, to sell CIA secrets to the Soviets. Boyce acts out of a sense of outrage, but Lee is a drug dealer who's in it for the money, and he becomes increasingly unreliable.
