Nicholas Van Orton (Michael Douglas) is a wealthy banker, who leads
an unemotional, bleak life. His brother (Sean Penn) wants to wake him up
and add some fun to his life, so he gives him a present for his birthday:
a game. The object of the game is to discover the object of the game. Nicholas
is a control-freak and has no desire to play a game that is wrapped in
such mystery, but he eventually consents. Soon his life is spun out of
control as the game takes over. The audience is swept along with every
twist, never knowing where the game is going. Is it a game that's spinning
out of control or a con game?
